About
About MapChisel
Start with the basics about the application and its current platform.
What is MapChisel?
MapChisel is a focused 3D level editor for creating early level layouts. You can build floors, walls, stairs, ramps, openings, doors, and layered spaces, then test the layout before moving it into the next stage of your workflow.
Is MapChisel a Godot plugin?
No. MapChisel is a standalone application rather than a plugin inside the Godot editor. You build and test the layout in MapChisel, then export it when you are ready to continue elsewhere.
Which operating systems are supported?
MapChisel is currently available for 64-bit Windows.
Versions
Free Preview & Full Version
Understand what you can try and which output features require the Full Version.
What can I do with the Free Preview?
The Free Preview lets you explore the editor, create and edit layouts, use layers, load an editable MapChisel project, and enter Test Mode. Saving projects and exporting files are not available in the Free Preview.
Does the Free Preview have a time limit?
No time limit or trial expiration is defined for the current Free Preview.
What does the Full Version unlock?
The Full Version unlocks saving editable MapChisel projects and exporting Godot scenes, JSON data, and GLB models. The building, editing, and testing workflow is also available in the Free Preview.
Is Test Mode available in the Free Preview?
Yes. Test Mode is available in the Free Preview and lets you inspect the layout from a first-person view. The level must contain at least one floor before Test Mode can start.
Can I save or export from the Free Preview?
No. Project saving and all file exports require the Full Version. You can still build, edit, load, and test layouts in the Free Preview.

Saving & Exporting
Choose an editable project or an export format for the next step.
Which formats can MapChisel export?
The Full Version can save an editable MapChisel project and export static or playable Godot scenes, JSON data, and GLB models.
What is the difference between a static and playable Godot scene?
A static scene contains the generated level geometry and collision for continued work in Godot, with doors remaining static. A playable scene adds a first-person inspection setup and linked automatic-door behavior.
What is saved in a MapChisel project?
A MapChisel project keeps the editable level structure, layers, object settings, and layout properties. Reopen the project later when you want to continue editing it in MapChisel.
What is included in the JSON export?
The JSON export contains structured level information for custom scripts, tools, and development workflows. It is an export format and cannot be imported back into MapChisel.
What is included in the GLB export?
The GLB export contains the visible level geometry and color materials for compatible 3D tools and engines. Collision shapes are not included in this export.
Can I reopen an exported scene, JSON file, or GLB model in MapChisel?
No. MapChisel can reopen its editable project format. Godot scenes, JSON files, and GLB models are created for use in the next stage of your workflow.

Compatibility & Workflow

Does MapChisel only work with Godot?
No. MapChisel provides direct Godot scene export, while JSON and GLB exports can support custom tools, compatible 3D applications, and other development workflows.
Does MapChisel require Godot to be installed?
No. MapChisel is a standalone Windows application and includes the runtime it needs. Godot is only needed if you want to continue working with an exported Godot scene.
Does MapChisel create final game-ready artwork?
MapChisel focuses on blockouts and early level layouts rather than final detailed artwork. Use it to test rooms, routes, heights, and connections before investing time in detailed models, textures, and final art.
Help
License & Support
Activate the Full Version and find help when you need it.
How is the Full Version activated?
Open the Full Version panel and copy the displayed Computer Code. When you receive the matching license file, choose Load License File and select it to unlock saving and exporting.
Is the license connected to a specific computer?
Yes. The license file must match the Computer Code shown by MapChisel on that computer. A license created for a different code will not activate the Full Version.
Where can I find the documentation?
Open the MapChisel documentation for getting started, building tools, selection, layers, Test Mode, saving, exporting, activation, and troubleshooting.
How can I report a bug or request support?
Contact MapChisel support at mapchisel@gmail.com with a clear description of the problem and the steps that led to it.
